Tucked away at the easternmost tip of Cuba lies one of Guantánamo’s best-kept secrets: Pozo Azul. Located in the municipality of Maisí, this natural wonder defies expectations and amply rewards the effort required to reach it.

Pozo Azul is a stunning sinkhole featuring crystal-clear waters that display a mesmerizing palette of colors—ranging from turquoise blue to emerald green, depending on the daylight and depth. These waters connect to underground rivers and, ultimately, the sea, making the site a unique and fascinating ecosystem.

The sinkhole is surrounded by cliffs and marine terraces—geological formations that tell a story spanning millions of years and transform the landscape into an almost surreal setting.

Getting there is an adventure in itself. Access is via 4×4 vehicle or on foot along a rocky 12-kilometer trail—a demanding trek offering views that few places in Cuba can match. The path traverses rugged terrain dotted with rocks and xerophytic vegetation, accompanied by the constant sound of the wind and the sea.

This journey of exploration tests the body and rewards the spirit.
