The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has authorized Flair Airlines to operate regular international flights to Cuba, according to a press release published on the agency’s website on April 8, 2026.
CTA reported that it was satisfied that the airline met the necessary regulatory requirements to offer this service. However, the authorization remains subject to the conditions established by the Air Transport Regulations.
No specific dates for the launch of operations were provided, with the flight schedule yet to be defined.
The announcement comes at a complicated time for air connectivity with the Caribbean island, due to the energy crisis compounded by the halt of Venezuelan oil supplies, which has resulted in a lack of fuel for aircraft at various airports and the temporary suspension of operations by Canadian airlines since February.
In this scenario, preliminary dates for the resumption of flights have been reported, but remain subject to change. Among these, Sunwing Vacations and WestJet aim to resume operations from June 20, with destinations such as Varadero and Cayo Coco from Toronto, Montreal and Quebec.
Meanwhile, in a memorandum to travel agents, Air Transat informed that it’s return to the island has been postponed to at least the same date.
Air Canada has delayed its resumption of flights to Cuba to November 1, 2026, due to the ongoing operational difficulties, including blackouts and the partial closure of hotel facilities across the island.
