Exclusivity and fun will mark the upcoming days from August 1 to 3, when the Meliá Las Américas hotel has organized a Golf for Girls tournament that will allow guests to fully enjoy the magnificent course at the tourist resort of Varadero, in Matanzas.
“It’s basically a weekend specializing in golf for girls. It starts now in August and will also run through the September edition. Throughout the three days, there will be various activities for girls to play, which serves to boost this segment,” Maite Artieda, director of Communications and Marketing at Meliá Cuba, told Sol de Cuba.
The iconic resort, a 5-star all-inclusive resort for adults only (18+), has direct access to the Varadero Golf Club and offers rooms with ocean or golf views, luxurious cuisine, and exclusive The Level service in private areas.
The Varadero Golf Club, on the other hand, is the only 18-hole, par-72 golf course in Cuba. It was designed by architect Les Furber, president of the Canadian company Golf Design Services LTD (GDS), combining three (3) golf architecture styles: Classic design, Challenging or Target Golf design, and Links design.
Opened in 1999, it covers a narrow 3.5 km strip located between the Los Cactus, Tuxpan, Bella Costa, Meliá Las Américas, Melia Varadero, Sol Palmeras, and Sol Caribe Beach hotels. It offers all the facilities, services, and equipment associated with playing golf.
Golf Tournament Schedule

The event program includes a “Sunset on the Beach” welcome cocktail party and beach party on the first day. The second day includes sunrise lessons and a mini-putt tournament, a golf cart tour of the Varadero Golf Club, theoretical classes, an after-golf event in the hotel gardens with an awards ceremony, sunset yoga, and a pool party.
The final day includes practical lessons on the Driving Range and a Healthy Fresh Juice Corner in the gardens.
“Girls Only” events focused on golf are a modern trend in the sport. The goal of these events is to foster the creation of a support network among women who share a passion for a sport traditionally practiced by men, while also offering opportunities to establish friendships and professional connections.
Two other events will take place this year: “September Golf Week,” which will be held from the 17th to the 24th of that month, also organized by Meliá Hotels International Cuba; and the traditional “Meliá Cuba Golf Cup,” a specialized event open to all amateur golfers. Players must present their handicap approved by their club. Players with a handicap of 26 or less for men and 36 or less for women will be admitted.
