The scent of the white garland-lily, Cuba’s national flower, accompanies adventurers who reach Topes de Collante, a nature destination located in the center of the island that attracts climbing and ecotourism enthusiasts.
Near the town of Trinidad, but rising some 800 meters above sea level, the Escambray Mountains welcome thousands of tourists each year seeking trails, waterfalls, caves, peace and a connection with nature.
This luxurious natural setting, thanks to its biodiversity and protected and preserved status, offers a first-hand experience of Cuba’s mountainous landscape. Its trails cross humid forests, where you can observe tree ferns, orchids and endemic species.
Various excursions along the trails begin each morning from the center of the park, with expert local guides and drivers who travel deep into the mountain range aboard Russian-made trucks that ascend and descend to bring passengers closer to paths leading to rivers and waterfalls.

Among the main routes is the one leading to the Salto del Caburní, a waterfall surrounded by rocks and vegetation. A rugged terrain characterizes the trail through lush forests, unique rock outcrops, and canyon-like cliffs.
The waterfall offers an impressive spectacle, thanks to its many forks and the serenity of a natural pool.
In this nature reserve located in the Guamuhaya mountain range, between the provinces of Cienfuegos and Sancti Spíritus, tourists can also choose to explore El Cubano Park, with accessible trails and the attraction of Salto Javira, another waterfall with a natural pool; the La Batata Trail, notable for its caves and underground rivers, as well as viewpoints overlooking the valley; Vegas Grandes, a more challenging route with panoramic views and a waterfall of over 30 meters; or the Hacienda Codina Trail, home to an orchid garden, a cave with access to a viewpoint, and a bamboo forest.
Among the souvenirs from these tours, travelers often capture photographs of birds endemic to Cuba, such as the ivory-billed woodpecker, the tocororo, and the hummingbird.
Amidst the lush nature, there are comfortable facilities for a relaxing break after long hikes.
