The Third International Seminar on Tourism Law begins today in Havana

The UN Tourism Council, Cuban Ministry of Tourism, and the University of Havana are organizing the event

The Third International Seminar on Tourism Law, sessioning in Havana December 9 through 11, will address the main challenges n the field related to digital transformation, artificial intelligence, new platforms, accessibility, sustainability and foreign investment in tourism.

From a legal perspective, the seminar will include a debate on a group of legal issues that shape the current, medium-term and long-term landscape in the face of digital transformation, within an environment of accelerated global integration of tourism processes.

Agenda

  • The growing participation of large platforms in tourism marketing processes and the need to regulate and establish certain protection limits for the benefit of consumers.
  • The increasing legal and regulatory challenges related to short-term rentals and accommodation services offered by hosts through online platforms.
  • Artificial intelligence as a driving force in tourism processes, information and protection for tourists, perspectives, and its role as a guide for both tourists and service providers.
  • Smart destinations, their impact on marketing and the regulations for their development within an environment of order and protection for both customers and service providers.
  • Sustainability and accessibility in the context of new regulatory projections and experiences.
  • Foreign investment as a driving force for tourism development.

Why is this event being held?

  • To contribute to the commitment of national tourism administration officials, government representatives, international organizations, academics and researchers, university professors and experts, tourism industry leaders and professionals, representatives of business groups in the tourism sector, and lawyers linked to the tourism sector regarding Tourism Law and in recognition of the need for new regulatory frameworks.
  • To generate concrete guidelines and recommendations regarding international and national regulatory proposals in a disruptive scenario resulting from digital transformation.
  • To evaluate the application of the International Convention on Tourism Ethics, the International Code for the Protection of Tourists, and the ISO 21902:2021 standard on Accessible Tourism adopted by UN Tourism as frameworks for the application and formulation of national regulatory responses to these challenges.
  • To foster a greater understanding of the growing role of Tourism Law as a necessary instrument in the complex current and future scenario and to identify the main legal challenges today and the projections for its regulation.
  • To contribute to the increase of new professional and institutional links between universities, national tourism administrations, business stakeholders, and colleagues in the sector. To promote tourism and its contribution to peace and understanding of peoples and their cultures.
