For nature and photography lovers, the Gaviota Tourism Group has launched the 12th edition of Naturaleza Digital, a robust competition that attracts hundreds of participants each year, many of whom will gather again for this new event, scheduled from October 6 through 11 in the Topes de Collantes Protected Natural Landscape, a natural paradise in the province of Sancti Spírtus.
The call for entries states that the competition is being held under a pseudonym in four categories: Landscape, Flora and Fauna, Humanity and Nature, and Macro Photography.
For four days, participants take photos on trails chosen by draw in one of the most comprehensive ecotourism destinations in the country: La Batata, Caburní, Vegas Grandes, Camino de la Barbera, Guanayara, Gruta Nengoa, Grau, Río Guaurabo, Mi Retiro, El Hanabanilla, and Salto del Rocío, all of which feature a significant presence of the beauty of the Topes vegetation.
Digital version of the competition broke records
Earlier this year, Gaviota launched the 7th Edition of the International Naturaleza Digital Online Photography Contest 2025, held from April 14 to June 30.
Anyone, whether professional or amateur, was welcome to participate with nature images from anywhere in the world.
Using the same categories as the in-person event, an unprecedented milestone was achieved with the participation of 118 photographers from 11 countries, allowing them to submit 344 images. Among the nations represented were Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil, Puerto Rico, France, Spain, Ecuador, Indonesia, and Cuba.
The Grand Prize in the online contest went to José Alberto Pérez Hechavarría of Cuba; while in the Landscape category, Josefina Della Barca of Argentina took first place. Leonardo Mejías Proenza and Yunior Consuegra, both from Cuba, followed in second and third place, respectively.

In the Man and Nature category, César Mera Rodríguez from Ecuador took first place, followed by Ana María Hernández from Cuba, and Camilo Rojas from Colombia.
Meanwhile, in Flora and Fauna, the first place winner was José Alberto Pérez Hechavarría from Cuba. The podium was completed by Ángel Miguel Caballero Calderín, also from Cuba, and Andrés Felipe Ramírez from Colombia.
Finally, in the Macro category, Yadiel Veunes Alonso from Cuba took first place, followed by José Alberto Pérez Hechavarría and Ángel Miguel Caballero Calderín with second and third place.
The prize was free entry into the 12th International Naturaleza Digital Photography Competition 2025, this October.
