President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, sent a message of heartfelt condolences to the Spanish government and people for the victims and those injured in the derailment of two trains.
“All our solidarity at this sad time,” the head of state wrote on social media. His message has been shared by Cuban authorities, including Minister of Tourism Juan Carlos García Granda, who is in Madrid to participate in FITUR, the largest international tourism event.
As a show of solidarity from the tourism sector, the event organizers called for a minute of silence this Wednesday, January 21, at 10:15 a.m., in remembrance of the victims of the Adamuz accident, as well as to express their support for all those affected during these difficult moments.
Today’s program includes the inaugural MICE Summit 2026, a new strategic forum organized in conjunction with FORO MICE, which will bring together experts and leaders in the meetings, incentives and events tourism sector. This high-level gathering reinforces FITUR’s role as a leading global platform.

The Cuban delegation will be present at the event, although the agenda of professional exchanges has not stopped since their arrival in Spain beforehand. International cooperation and the priorities of global tourism were the topics addressed on January 19 by the Secretary-General of UN Tourism, Shaikha Al Nowais, and the Cuban Minister of Tourism, in the lead-up to FITUR.
García Granda also participated on Monday in the 13th Ibero-American Conference of Ministers of Tourism in Alcalá de Henares, where he denounced the intensification of the US blockade against the island, reiterated the national commitment leisure industry development, and presented investment opportunities in hotel management, among other attractions.
This forum is key to strengthening tourism cooperation in Ibero-America, as emphasized by Marcelino Medina, Cuban ambassador to Spain and concurrently to the Principality of Andorra.
