For the first time, Cuba participated in the prestigious Athens International Tourism and Culture Expo (AIT Expo) in its 12th edition, held at the Zappeion, one of the city’s most emblematic neoclassical buildings.

The Cuban delegation was headed by the Cuban Ambassador to Greece, Aramis Fuente Hernández, and included representatives from Blue Diamond Resorts, according to a post on social media by Yanet Mora Furgueson, Cuban Tourism Counsellor to Greece.

“The island’s presence at this important international platform demonstrates the interest in continuing to strengthen tourism and cultural ties between both countries and increasing outbound tourism from the Greek market,” the diplomat noted.

She added that the Cuban stand became a meeting point, inviting attendees to discover the authentic culture, beautiful beaches and vibrant heritage of the Caribbean nation.

Bridging the gap

Strategies from Cuba aimed at increasing outbound travel from the Greek market to the island continue to gain momentum.

Among the recent initiatives is a familiarization trip (Fam Trip) for 10 influential figures with a wide reach and popularity in the region. The use of influencers in the tourism sector not only helps to promote destinations and services but also creates an emotional connection with potential travelers.

“Greek tourists love our country; our history, our heritage, our culture, our nature, and these are, in most cases, the reasons for their trip,” noted Mora Furgueson.

Proof of their interest in Cuba is that they don’t limit their visits to Havana, but also explore cities like Cienfuegos and Trinidad; or visit El Nicho and dedicate a day or two to Varadero to enjoy the warmth of the Caribbean beaches.
