Cuban athlete Jhoen Lefont, known as “The Dolphin,” has made his name a part of record-breaking sports history by setting a new world record for ball control while submerged in water. In a display of concentration, strength, and absolute body control, Lefont managed to balance a soccer ball on his head for 32:03.60 minutes, without letting it fall into the water at any point.
This extraordinary feat not only demonstrates his unique skill, but also shatters the previous world record of 28:34 minutes, held by Nigerian Tony Salomon.
The event, which requires perfect synchronization of arm and leg movements, was easily surpassed by the Cuban athlete.
The setting for this feat could not have been more special: the final day of the fourth edition of the Gran Retto Varadero 2025 Open Water sports spectacle.

With the support of family, friends and admirers, Lefont not only competed, but also offered a moment of pure spectacle, reaffirming his deep connection to this event.”I’m very happy to set the record.
Now comes the process of gathering all the evidence for official recognition as a Guinness World Record,” declared an emotional Lefont after his achievement.
Despite admitting to a natural tiredness in his legs, the former Cuban national team water polo player attributed his success to teamwork and feeling in top physical condition.
“The Dolphin” is already an emblematic figure of the Gran Retto. His insatiable ambition doesn’t stop there; the athlete has already announced that he will remain focused on breaking new records, proving that his ability to push the limits of the human body is more alive than ever.
