Early Monday morning, the Juan Gualberto Gómez Ferrer International Airport in Varadero welcomed its first flight from St. Petersburg, operated by Venezuelan airline CONVIASA. Cuban music welcomed the travelers in an atmosphere reflecting the hospitality and warmth that characterize Cuba as a destination.
The new flight route marks a milestone in strengthening tourism ties between Russia and Cuba. This service facilitates direct access from one of Russia’s major cities to one of the Caribbean’s most iconic tourist destinations. The inaugural flight represents a strategic opportunity to boost the Russian market, which has proven to be one of the most important for Cuban tourism in recent years.
Vacationers find a unique combination of sun, beach, culture and history on the archipelago. Varadero, with its more than 20 kilometers of beaches, is one of the favorite destinations for Russian tourists, who also enjoy the cultural richness of Havana, the lush nature of Viñales, and the colonial authenticity of Trinidad.
The opening of this air route reinforces Cuba’s commitment to diversifying its source markets and the recovery of the tourism sector. Furthermore, it consolidates Varadero as a top-tier international destination, capable of offering memorable experiences to visitors from around the world.
