During the 7th Destinos Gaviota Tourism Trade Fair, which runs until September 20 in Cayo Santa María, Iberostar Cuba Hotels & Resorts announced the results obtained after installing an ecoPlanta at Havana Club International S.A.’s San José Rum Factory, an innovative initiative considered a pioneer within the Pernod Ricard Group and the first of its kind in the country.
The ecoPlanta allows for the filling of recyclable 4.5-liter glass containers, known as ecoTotes. A reduction of 10 tons of waste and 16 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere will be achieved in 2024 alone, the Spanish chain indicates in a press release, as Iberostar is the host of this technology.
In partnership with Havana Club International S.A., the program aimed at reducing the carbon footprint through corporate social responsibility is being promoted through the circular project with ecoSPIRITS™ technology. The collaboration has contributed to significantly reducing carbon emissions, waste, energy consumption, and the use of raw materials resulting from the production and transportation of single-use bottles for Havana Club and secondary packaging.
In this way, the methods of production, distribution, and consumption of spirits on the island have also been revolutionized, and we are moving toward a greener future, the press release adds.
Iberostar Cuba has a solid sustainability policy committed to fostering resilient destinations, creating experiences in harmony with nature, supporting sustainable fishing practices and communities, reducing our impact, preserving resources through the concept of a circular economy, and collaborating for a positive future that allows people to rise above their time.
As evidenced, all rooms inside its hotels are free of single-use plastic.
