Attractive portfolio of opportunities unveiled in Trinidad

An attractive portfolio of investment opportunities in tourism, in line with the measures approved by the Cuban government in recent months, was presented in Trinidad, a destination renowned for its natural beauty and 19th-century architecture, a time when it was one of Cuba’s most prosperous cities.

A report in the Escambray newspaper details that “the proposals include the incorporation of new business models, investments, digitalization, international promotion of Cuban brands, and governance, in order to enhance products and services.”

The goal is to revitalize tourism, which has a significant impact on regional revenue, by leveraging the current situation to enhance the quality of products and services, as detailed by Yordanis Fernández Alonso, the Ministry of Tourism’s delegate in the province of Sancti Spíritus, at the Business Fair held specifically for this purpose.

What does the portfolio of opportunities include?

The declaration of the Historic Center of Trinidad and the Valley of the Sugar Mills as a zone of preferential tourist use is the main new development.

In addition, it was announced that the lease of a bar at the family-run Ma Dolores Hotel is now a reality. This hotel, situated in a privileged rural and natural setting, offers 45 bungalows, ideal for those seeking to enjoy nature near the Guaurabo River, kayaking, or excursions to the Javira waterfall.

Twelve cooperative initiatives were also finalized, promoted by the Palmares branch, and two by the Islazul hotel chain, along with a proposal from Campismo Manacal for consignment products.

There is also a proposal to franchise La Canchánchara abroad, as part of the effort to promote the international expansion of Cuban brands. The popular tavern is located in one of Trinidad’s oldest buildings, combining architectural elements from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Its signature cocktail is based on the traditional drink used by the Mambises of the Liberation Army during the War of Independence.

The local newspaper reports that work is underway to recognize tour guides and private travel agencies, as well as to approve regulations, resolutions, and taxes for national and foreign investors interested in developing rural tourism, ecotourism, and specialized tourism in communities throughout Sancti Spíritus province.

Trinidad, located in the central Cuban province of Sancti Spíritus, was founded in the early 16th century, but its existence and historical significance are owed to the sugar industry that flourished there and in the nearby Valley of the Sugar Mills from the late 18th to the late 19th centuries. The Valley of the Sugar Mills is a remarkable testament to the development of the sugar industry in the region, which at one time housed 75 former sugar mills, plantation houses, barracks, and other facilities related to this industry.
