Ministry of Tourism strategies to revitalize the sector were the focus of recent statements by Minister Juan Carlos García Granda, speaking to EFE news agency, in the context of FITUR 2026, the world’s most important business event for the leisure industry.
The recovery of the European market, primarily Spain, is a priority, in a context in which European media prioritize the dissemination of negative news regarding the Caribbean nation.
The minister pointed out that the sector has implemented solutions in the face of difficulties, such as strengthening the electrical infrastructure of the country’s hotel network. Major tourist destinations like Cayo Coco and Cayo Largo “have their own power generation,” EFE reports.
García Granda also highlighted the country’s commitment to developing renewable energy sources, with the installation of solar parks throughout the archipelago.
Cuba “is an ideal island for tourism,” he said. “We have always been a highly sought-after and preferred destination for Spanish visitors, and generally for almost all of Europe.”
“We intend to work very hard to recover” that market, García Granda added, alluding to the nation’s ability to overcome the difficulties exacerbated by the US blockade.
He also noted that security remains one of Cuba’s main assets compared to other countries in the Americas and the Caribbean.
Among the good news on the horizon, he mentioned the efforts to increase air connectivity with Europe.
