It’s official: on December 2, direct flights between Germany and Cuba resumed. From Frankfurt, the Havanatur S.A. Group of Tour Operators and Travel Agencies confirmed the official launch of these flights on social media.

The first flight covers the Frankfurt-Holguín-Havana route with a Plus Ultra Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which meets European safety and sustainability standards and has a capacity of 287 passengers.

Going forward, there will be two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The reestablishment of direct flights between the two countries will facilitate access for European visitors to the island’s main tourist destinations and strengthen commercial and cultural ties between Cuba and Germany.

For the past 30 years, the German market has consistently ranked among the top five in arrivals to the Caribbean nation, with a preference for tour packages and stays in beach resorts.

When the announcement was made in the summer, Cuban Minister of Tourism, Juan Carlos García Granda, described the launch as historic, aiming to boost the leisure industry in the archipelago and maintain communication with Germany after airline Condor suspended its operations.

Representatives of travel agencies that market Cuba in Germany reiterated their support for this new initiative to maintain the German market as one of the main sources of tourists to the Caribbean nation.

Analysis and statistics indicate that Germany’s outlook for the travel sector is positive. Bookings for international getaways could exceed the previous year’s figures by 9% in 2025, according to analyses by specialized sources.

Long-haul destinations and ocean cruises are among the top choices for a population eager to discover new horizons. The travel patterns reflect German travelers’ interest in sunny, culturally rich destinations with sustainable offers.

“Hence the importance of continuing to work toward stabilizing the competitiveness of the Cuban tourism product, stimulating demand, and restoring direct flights,” Orlando Ramos, Cuban Tourism counselor in Berlin, told the press months ago.
